Essential for power transmission: understanding the role of transformers
Transformers play an indispensable role in power transmission and have various functions, including regulating voltage, reducing resistance, improving efficiency, etc.
No-load loss: When the secondary winding of a dry-type transformer is open circuit and the primary winding is subjected to a rated voltage with a sinusoidal waveform of rated frequency, the active power consumed is called no-load loss.

In an AC circuit, the device that raises or lowers the voltage is called a transformer. The transformer can convert any value of voltage into the voltage value we need with the same frequency to meet the requirements of energy transmission, distribution, and use. For example, the electricity generated by a power plant has a low voltage level, and the voltage must be raised in order to be transmitted to a distant electricity consumption area. The electricity consumption area must be reduced to a suitable voltage level through voltage reduction to supply power equipment and daily electrical equipment.

The Autotransformer has only one set of coils, and the secondary coil is tapped out from the primary coil. Its electric energy transmission includes not only electromagnetic induction transmission, but also electric transmission. The number of silicon steel sheets and copper wires of this transformer is less than that of ordinary transformers, and it is often used to regulate voltage.

The losses during transformer operation include two parts; (1) It is caused by the iron core. When the coil is energized, the magnetic field lines are alternating, causing eddy current and hysteresis losses in the iron core. This loss is collectively referred to as iron loss. (2) It is caused by the resistance of the coil itself. When there is current passing through the primary and secondary coils of the transformer, electrical energy loss occurs, which is called copper loss.

The short-circuit impedance of a dry type transformer refers to the equivalent circuit series characteristic impedance Zk=Rk+jXk in the middle of a pair of winding terminals at rated operating frequency and reference temperature. Because its value needs to be determined based on load experiments in addition to calculation, it is habitually referred to as short-circuit fault working voltage or characteristic impedance working voltage.

Cooling method for dry-type transformers
1. Open type: It is a common method where the body of the device comes into direct contact with the air and is integrated into a relatively dry and clean room. (When the working temperature is 20 degrees Celsius, the air humidity should not exceed 85%.) Generally, there are two cooling methods: gas over temperature protection and air cooling.

Transformer is a multi terminal electrical device that utilizes the principle of electromagnetic induction to raise and lower voltage and current, and achieve energy and information transmission. This device adopts the basic principle of magnetic coupling, and can convert the voltage value from the original AC power to other voltage values at the same frequency, meeting the requirements of high-voltage, low-voltage and other applications.

What is a transformer? Most electrical personnel are probably very familiar with it, but when it comes to the functions, principles, and other related parameters of transformers, many electrical personnel may only know one thing and not the other. Transformer is a type of transformer that changes the voltage, which can increase or decrease the voltage, including both step-up and step-down transformers. There are box transformers in residential areas, which are called step-down transformers. Larger factories have their own transformers, which are also step-down transformers that change from high voltage to low voltage, usually dropping from 35 kV to 380 V. Transformers are an important electrical equipment in the transmission, transformation, and distribution process of the power system. So, daily life cannot do without transformers, and industrial production cannot do without transformers. Below, this article will take you to a more comprehensive understanding of "transformers". After reading the article, I believe everyone will have a new understanding.
